A Morning in the Northern Rivers
Fresh produce, coastal walks, music, travel and a slower pace of life. We joined Kate for a morning in the Northern Rivers to discover the beauty of everyday living—and the effortless comfort of dressing for it.
For those who know us, you'll know our local farmers market is part of our weekly ritual.
In fact, if you call us early on a Wednesday morning, there's a good chance we won't answer. We'll be wandering between stalls, chatting with our favourite growers, and filling our baskets with the freshest local produce.
It's always been our way of life, but with everything happening in the world right now, supporting local communities and small businesses feels more important than ever.
The market is more than just a place to shop. It's where we reconnect, slow down, embrace the seasons, and support the people who make our community so special.
This week, we spent the morning with the beautiful Kate, sharing one of our favourite rituals before venturing back to her home in the Northern Rivers, just a short distance away, to chat about life, travel, music, friendship, and why she loves living in MahaShe.
Kate has called the Northern Rivers home for decades. It's where she raised her three beautiful children and where she's now watching her granddaughter grow up, surrounded by the same sense of community that has always meant so much to her.
When she talks about her family, her whole face lights up.
"My kids still holiday together," she tells us. "They genuinely love spending time together."
Over cups of tea and a cheese platter made with fresh market produce, we chatted about everything from reading and music to travel.
Kate has always loved the quieter moments—a good book, playing music, walks along the beach, lunch with friends—but she also loves a good adventure and exploring something new.
In the past few years Kate has trekked the Himalayas, completed a ten day meditation walk in Tasmania's ancient forests, ventured Europe with both of her daughters, and most recently spent time in Japan with her sister's family.
Eventually, the conversation turned to MahaShe.
When we asked her where she wears it, she responded "everywhere!"
To work. Around home. Walking on the beach. Lunch with friends. Dinner out.
"It's just easy," she said. "I don't have to think about it."
She told us she loves how effortlessly the dresses slip on—even after a swim or shower—how beautifully they wash, and how they always feel ready to wear again.
Then she said something that moved us.
"Thank you for making clothes that just fit my body."
Those words stayed with us long after we left.
Because that's exactly why MahaShe exists. Not to tell women how they should dress, but to create clothing that fits into their lives. Clothes that travel with you, walk the beach with you, gather around the table with friends, and become part of the memories you make.
As we drove home, we couldn't help but think that Kate embodies so much of what we love about this community. She values people over possessions, experiences over excess, and understands that life's richest moments are often the simplest ones.
