Orders, Returns & Final Sale
Can I order by phone instead of online?
Yes. Call us during business hours. If we miss your call, leave a message and we’ll call you back. Alternatively, email info@mahashe.com with your request, and we’ll send you an invoice with a secure payment link.
Where can I try on MahaShe before buying?
Our Boutique
Visit our Brunswick Heads store (14A The Terrace, 7 days, 10 am–4 pm, 02 6685 1411). It’s a welcoming space to explore the collections, feel our fabrics, and find your perfect fit. We also carry a rotating selection of samples and seconds in-store, often with lovely bargains and treasures you won’t find online.
Stockists
We also supply select boutiques around Australia and beyond. Find your nearest MahaShe stockist. As our stockists purchase directly from us, we don’t have visibility of their inventory. We recommend calling ahead to check if they currently have MahaShe in store, and to confirm which styles are available.
Online Shopping
No physical store (including our boutique) can carry the full range available on our website. If you buy online at full price, you can try it on at home and return it until you find the perfect size and style for you. We understand that buying clothing online can be challenging — our generous returns policy is designed to make it easier.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Once your order is placed, it’s sent straight to our warehouse for processing, which means we’re usually unable to make changes or cancel it. Our dispatch system is designed to get your garments to you as quickly as possible, so we’re unable to hold orders for shipping at a later date.
Before confirming your purchase, please double-check all details, especially your shipping address and email. This helps avoid any delays or delivery issues.
If you do notice an error and your order hasn’t been packed yet, we’ll do our best to help. Just email us at info@mahashe.com as soon as possible, but please understand that we can’t guarantee changes once the order is in motion.
In line with our terms and conditions, MahaShe reserves the right to cancel any order prior to dispatch. Once a tracking number has been issued, your parcel is on its way and can no longer be altered.
How can I use my gift card or promo code?
You’ll find the “Discount code or gift card” box on the right-hand side of the checkout page if you're on a desktop. On mobile, it will appear under the order summary.
- Gift cards and promo codes must be applied at checkout — we’re unable to add them retroactively once your order is confirmed.
- You can use a gift card and a discount code together in one transaction.
- Only one discount code can be applied per order, so if you have more than one, choose the one that gives you the best value.
Please double-check that your code or gift card has been accepted before completing your order. If it doesn’t apply, you’ll see an error message so you can try again before proceeding.
What is the shipping policy?
Once your order is placed, you’ll receive a confirmation email letting you know we’ve received it. When it’s fulfilled and ready to send, we’ll email you again with tracking details so you can follow its journey.
We deliver within Australia, New Zealand, and internationally. Shipping rates and estimated delivery times vary by region — you can find full details, including free shipping thresholds, flat rates, and carrier information, on our Delivery information page
Please note: shipping fees are non-refundable if you return your order.
How do you ship your garments?
We carefully package your garments in recycled sari bags, then ship them in fully compostable, reusable post satchels. Designed with a double adhesive strip, they’re easy to reuse for returns or your own postage needs. And when you’re done, they can go in your home compost, breaking down naturally over time.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes, we ship all over the world. Shipping costs will apply, and will be added at checkout. Full details are available on our Delivery Information page.
The style or print I like is sold out, will you restock it?
Once it’s gone, it’s gone, we don’t reorder.
All of our garments are made in small batches, and we only produce one run per collection, making each piece a limited edition.
Very occasionally, a sold-out size may become available again if we receive a return. If you’d like to be notified, simply select your size on the product page and click “Notify me when available” — you’ll get an alert if it comes back into stock.
If you love something, we recommend purchasing while your size is available to avoid missing out.
What if I receive the wrong item?
If you've received something different to what you ordered, please email us at info@mahashe.com within 7 days of receiving your parcel. Be sure to include:
- A clear photo of the item you received
- Your order number
Once we confirm the error, we’ll promptly send out the correct item and include a return shipping label so you can send the incorrect item back to us at no cost to you.
Can I return a garment if it doesn’t suit me?
Yes, if purchased at full price. We offer generous returns for full-price items so you can try on at home. Items discounted by less than 30% can be returned for store credit. Read our full returns policy including how to lodge a return.
Can I return or exchange Final Sale items?
Garments discounted by 31% or more are considered Final Sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.
As a small business, our margins don’t allow us to offer the same return flexibility at this discount level. That’s why we encourage you to shop thoughtfully and refer to the size guide and garment notes on each product page before purchasing.
If you’re unsure about sizing or style suitability, we recommend starting with full-priced items or those discounted by less than 30% — these can be returned if needed. Once you’ve found your perfect size and style, you can shop Final Sale items with confidence.

Why do I need to try my garment on right away?
We’re a small team and don’t have the capacity to manage long-term fault claims in the same way that large retailers might. That’s why we ask customers to check and try on items as soon as they arrive, so we can resolve any issues promptly and fairly for everyone.
If you believe an item is faulty, the wrong size, or not what you ordered, please contact us within 7 days of receiving it. Please wait for our reply and confirmation of how to proceed before posting any garments back, returns sent without prior approval may not be able to be processed.
We can't process claims for faults weeks or months after delivery, as it becomes difficult to confirm the condition the item arrived in.
Sizing & Fit
What size should I buy?
Our size runs are from 6 to 18 (XS–XXXL) for women’s garments and S to XXXXL for men’s shirts. Because there’s no standardisation in Australian clothing sizes, your “usual size” may not always match ours.
We recommend checking the Size & Fit section on each product page, where you’ll find exact measurements and notes on whether the style runs oversized, true to size, or slim-fitting.
For more on our fabrics, fit, and sizing tips, see Our Sizing Explained.
Do you make sizes above 18?
Currently, our sizing goes up to a size 18. That said, many of our garments are generously cut, and some customers who typically wear size 20 or 22 find they can comfortably wear certain MahaShe styles in size 18.
Inclusive sizing is something we deeply value, and we hope to expand our size range in the future. However, as a small business, scaling responsibly means we must balance financial realities with our ethical goals. Designing for larger sizes isn’t just a matter of scaling up; it requires reworking patterns, sampling, and testing on different body types.
In the meantime, you might like to explore our Generous Fits Collection — styles that are cut to suit a wider range of shapes and sizes.
Why does sizing vary between garments?
All of our garments are made from natural fabrics, either 100% cotton or 95% cotton and 5% elastane. Most styles are designed to be fitted and flattering, rather than loose or flowy. Because cotton has little to no stretch, a tailored garment will fit very differently depending on the wearer's body shape.
While fabric type does play a role (cotton-elastane will soften and stretch slightly with wear), the main reason sizing may vary across styles is because each design suits different body shapes. For example, someone with a larger bust may need to size up in a style not cut for fuller chests, while sizing down in styles that are. The same is true for curvier hips or narrower shoulders; fit is about proportions, not just measurements.
Our garments are individually sewn by skilled machinists, not mass-produced. Because each piece is crafted by real people, small variations in fit or finish can occur; we see this as part of the charm of slow fashion. That’s why we strongly recommend checking the garment notes and measurements on each product page, rather than assuming your usual size will always apply.
What’s the difference between a Tunic and a Dress?
Our tunics are slightly shorter than our dresses and fall above the knee, with the exact length depending on your height. Many of our customers wear them as dresses, especially in warmer climates and seasons. Others choose to layer them with leggings or pants, making them a perfect trans-seasonal and beautifully versatile option.
Tunics typically don’t have defined waistbands or cinching at the waist. They offer a more streamlined shape through the torso, with some styles like the Ziggy being very relaxed, and others like the Alana, Sixties, and Billie offering a more tailored, shapely fit. Whether worn on their own or layered, they’re a flattering and practical choice for a wide range of body types and temperatures - and of course made with 100% breathable cotton.
What is a Midi Dress?
A midi dress is typically designed to fall mid-calf, sitting between a knee-length and a full-length (maxi) dress. It’s a flattering and classic silhouette that suits a wide range of body shapes and styles.
However, the exact length will depend on your height; if you're on the shorter side, a midi dress may fall closer to your ankles and wear more like a maxi. Our models are generally tall (you can find their height listed under Size & Fit), so we always recommend checking the length measurements on each product page and comparing them to your own height for the best fit.
If you're after a style that falls just below the knee, you might like the Elsy, Matilda, Lina, Mila or Eliza. These offer a similar flattering silhouette in a slightly shorter length - which may even be a Midi length on some - offering a lovely option for petite frames or anyone who prefers a knee-grazing fit.
What is a Maxi Dress?
A maxi dress is a full-length style designed to fall to the ankles. At MahaShe, the Isla Maxi Dress is currently our only maxi style.
Because maxi dresses are long, their final look can vary depending on your height. On petite frames, they may fall well past the ankle or even touch the floor, while on taller customers, they may sit a little higher, as you can see with many of our models. For this reason, we always recommend checking the garment length and comparing it to a piece you already own.
Do you have styles that suit my body shape?
Absolutely. We design for a wide range of shapes, with particular care for midlife women. Some general style tips:
- Large bust: Look for wrap styles or V-necks that soften the bust line.
- Small bust: High necklines, pleats, and pockets can add volume.
- Curvier hips: A-line or softly flared skirts and dresses can balance proportions without adding extra bulk.
- Petite: Structured tunics or dresses that define the waist help elongate.
We’re developing a "Shop by Body Shape" feature to make this easier — stay tuned! Sign up here.
Fabric, Care & Cotton
Do your garments shrink?
Most of our garments are made from pre-shrunk, colourfast cotton, so you shouldn't experience significant shrinkage. However, our handloomed cotton is an exception — it’s not pre-shrunk and may shrink slightly after the first wash. Much like denim, it relaxes again with wear. We suggest gently reshaping while damp and, when in doubt, sizing up.
How do I care for MahaShe cotton garments?
Cotton garments, cherished for their softness, breathability, and ethical production, require a touch more care compared to their synthetic counterparts — but we believe they’re well worth the effort.
Here are some key tips to preserve the quality and longevity of your cotton clothing:
- Wash Gently: Use cold water on a gentle, continuous cycle. Avoid soaking, handwashing, wringing, or scrubbing, as this can lead to colour bleeding or weakening of the fibres. Never overload your machine — give the garments space to move.
- Use Mild Detergent: Choose a gentle, non-bleach detergent. Avoid fabric softeners, which can break down natural fibres over time.
- Add a Natural Boost:
- Add ½ to 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to help set colours and reduce fading.
- Add ½ cup of salt to the wash water to help retain dye and soften fabrics.
- Dry with Care: Air-dry garments flat or on a hanger in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which accelerates fading.
- Reshape While Damp: After washing, gently reshape the garment with your hands before drying to help it retain its original form.
- Avoid Prolonged Stretching: Sitting or leaning in one position for extended periods can stretch cotton. Adjust occasionally and rotate wear to allow the fibres to recover.
- Steam or Iron if Needed: You don’t always need to iron cotton — many garments naturally relax after 30 minutes of wear or when hung in a steamy bathroom. But if needed, a warm iron or garment steamer can smooth out creases and restore the fabric's shape.
Cotton may need a little more care than synthetics, but its comfort, sustainability, and character more than make up for it.
How do I care for corduroy?
Our corduroy is 100% cotton, soft yet durable, with a lovely texture that develops even more character over time.
To keep it looking its best:
- Wash inside out in cold water on a gentle cycle to reduce friction on the textured surface.
- Avoid overloading the machine so the fabric can move freely.
- Skip the fabric softener — it can flatten the pile.
- Air dry in the shade, ideally on a hanger, to maintain the shape and prevent fading.
- Lightly steam or brush in the direction of the nap to restore the texture if it looks flattened.
- Avoid prolonged pressure (e.g., sitting on folded fabric) to keep the pile even.
With the right care, your corduroy will soften beautifully and last for many seasons.
Why does cotton fade?
Fading is part of the charm of natural fabrics. Unlike synthetic materials, cotton fades gracefully with time and wear. We consider it a reflection of the garment’s life and character.
Why does my fabric look different from the website photos?
Lighting, screen settings, and photography can all affect how colours appear. We include close-up photos of the fabric for each style to show the true print and tone, but colours may still look slightly different depending on your device’s display settings. If you're ever unsure, feel free to reach out before purchasing.
Why does the same style feel different to an older one I own?
We use natural fabrics, and every production run can have its own subtle character. Small shifts in weave, weight, or finish are part of the hand-crafted process, meaning fit and feel may vary slightly from one run to the next.
More often, the difference you notice is simply the beauty of wear: cotton softens and relaxes over time, especially around the bust, hips, or waist. That gentle moulding is what makes your favourite pieces feel so comfortable after many wears.
A brand-new garment may feel a little firmer than one you’ve worn and washed for years — this is completely normal, and part of cotton’s charm as it naturally adapts to your body over time.
Why don’t you use organic cotton?
We’re working toward it. While we absolutely believe in the benefits of organic cotton, the costs are currently prohibitive. We’re looking for a supplier that meets our standards without pushing our garments beyond reach for our customers.
Why choose cotton at all?
Why choose cotton at all?
Cotton is:
- Breathable and hypoallergenic
- Biodegradable and renewable
- Durable and versatile
- Supportive of local economies
- Gentle on sensitive skin
We LOVE cotton not only for how beautifully it feels to wear, but for what it stands for — comfort, longevity, and a connection to nature. It’s a fibre that softens with time, tells the story of its journey, and is as kind to the planet as it is to your skin.
Garment Quality & Faults
How can I tell if a garment is faulty?
At MahaShe, we take great pride in creating garments that are ethically made, thoughtfully designed, and crafted with care by a small, dedicated team in India. Each piece reflects traditional skills and attention to detail, and because our clothing isn’t mass-produced, small irregularities may occur. These are not considered faults; they’re part of what makes our garments unique.
If you believe your item is faulty, please contact us at info@mahashe.com within 7 days of receiving your order, including:
- Your order number
- Clear photos showing the issue
We’ll review your claim carefully. In line with Australian Consumer Law, if we determine that a genuine manufacturing fault is present, we’ll offer a replacement, repair, or refund depending on the circumstances.
Please wait for our reply and confirmation of how to proceed before posting any garments back, returns sent without prior approval may not be able to be processed.
We ask that you inspect your items and try them on as soon as possible after delivery. We’re unable to assess claims submitted weeks or months later, especially once a garment has been worn or washed. This is because natural wear, improper laundering, or incorrect storage can cause damage over time that isn’t covered as a manufacturing fault.
Please note that:
- Minor imperfections in hand-printed fabrics, variations in stitching, or slight differences in sizing due to hand-sewn production are not faults.
- Natural fading of cotton over time is part of the character of the fabric.
- Fit issues are not considered faults because garment notes and size references were provided at the time of purchase.
We understand that everyone sees things a little differently, but we ask for your trust as we assess each case with fairness, integrity, and a genuine commitment to customer care.
Why is my zipper stiff?
We use high-quality YKK hidden zippers for a seamless look. Because they're sewn close to the fabric, they may feel stiff initially. Run the zip up and down a few times while the garment is off; it will loosen with use.
Craftsmanship & Production
What does slow fashion mean at MahaShe?
Slow fashion means designing intentionally and producing mindfully. We:
- Release one collection at a time
- Avoid trend-driven styles
- Use natural fibres and timeless designs
- Keep all of our garments in circulation rather than discarding them — older collections remain available and may be offered at reduced prices through our Outlet collection
- Avoid waste, imperfect pieces become seconds sold in our boutique
Our garments are produced in small batches, and we only make one production run per collection. Once a style or size is sold out, it’s gone for good — making each piece a limited edition. By keeping past collections available and offering them at a discount instead of discarding them, we ensure our garments never contribute to landfill and can find a home with someone who will love them.
Who makes your clothes?
Our garments are thoughtfully designed in the Byron Bay Hinterland, Australia by April and Mark, surrounded by the natural beauty that inspires our collections. Every piece is then lovingly made in India by skilled artisans we’ve worked with for many years, people we know personally and deeply respect.
These long-standing partnerships are built on shared values: fair wages, safe working conditions, and complete ethical transparency. Each garment reflects traditional craftsmanship, timeless design, and the care of many hands.
Why do you work with artisans in India?
India’s rich textile history, especially in cotton and hand screen-printing, is part of MahaShe’s soul. We honour that tradition and help preserve skilled artisan work while supporting local economies.
What is a hand screen-printed garment?
Each garment is hand screen-printed using traditional Indian techniques passed down through generations. Every print is applied by skilled artisans, not machines, which means minor variations or “imperfections” are part of the charm. These subtle differences make each piece truly unique, no two garments are exactly the same.
Why don't you reorder popular garments?
We make each style in limited quantities as part of a single collection run. This small-batch approach helps prevent overproduction and ensures each piece feels special. Once a style or size sells out, it’s unlikely to return, which is why our garments often become much-loved, limited-edition finds.
On rare occasions, a size might become available again if it’s returned in perfect condition. If your favourite style is sold out, you can use the “Notify me when available” button on the product page to be alerted if this happens.
